Today we looked at how Dates are dealt with in Tableau – and specifically the use cases for Discrete and Continuous dates.
We also looked at the Parameter Update feature can be set up driven by data fields as well as a calculated field. This led to a quick review of the Fixed LOD term for a global “latest date in the data set” calculated field.
We then ran through the logic required to create an “Issue Date” from the transactional date field and identified how possible missing dates can be overcome using a data scaffolding technique.
We reviewed how to Group elements within a field and noted that these can be referenced in calculated fields.
