Eric Parker tackles a common pain: extracts that take an age to generate on your own machine. In this video he shows an old-school method in three steps. First, create an empty extract quickly on your desktop. Next, publish that extract to Tableau Cloud or Tableau Server. Finally, update the data once it is online, so the server does the heavy lifting instead of your laptop. Eric notes it is also a question that comes up in Tableau job interviews, so it is worth knowing how and why it works.
